COUN 678 - Advanced Counseling Modalities


3 credits
An advanced review of selected contemporary counseling modalities. For each counseling modality, the course will highlight the theoretical basis with an emphasis on the specific ways of intervening using each counseling modality. Students also will apply the counseling modalities to client cases and role plays. Possible counseling modalities covered: Cognitive Therapy, Behavior Therapy activities, Cognitive Behavior Therapy activities, Behavioral Activation Therapy, Social Rhythm Therapy, Anger Management Strategies, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Feminist Counseling, Activities for Grief Counseling, Motivational Interviewing, Psychopharmacology Basics for Counselors, and Technology for Counseling (such as telehealth and electronic counseling records). Counseling modalities covered will change each semester to reflect changes in the field.
