Longwood University is a four-year public liberal arts university located in Farmville, Virginia, United States. Founded in 1839 as Farmville Female Seminary Association, it is the third-oldest public university in Virginia and one of the hundred oldest institutions of higher education in the United States. Longwood became a university on July 1, 2002.
Longwood’s graduate students are served by the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. In 1955, Longwood began offering its first graduate programs in education. Today, Longwood offers six graduate majors, several of which offer multiple concentrations; Longwood also offers coursework for graduate professional endorsements. Graduate coursework is offered through several formats, from traditional on-campus, in-person classes to fully online. Some programs offer a hybrid format blending in-person meetings and online instruction to accommodate students who work full-time and/or live far away from our campus. Our graduate programs require from 31-60 graduate credits depending on the program.
Graduate faculty deliver instruction not only on Longwood’s main campus but also in locations throughout the state as well as online. Longwood University is pledged to a policy of nondiscrimination that applies to all phases of university life. Many of our programs are designed for the individual who is employed full-time and wishes to enroll in graduate studies on a part-time basis.
