SPED 517 - Literacy Instruction for Students with Disabilities

This course covers effective literacy instruction, with a focus on phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The emphasis will be on evidence-based practices to teach in each of these areas, along with a focus on vocabulary and comprehension across content areas and grade level. Students will also be expected to learn about components of effective language arts instruction and how to evaluate a language arts program.
