Literature Concentration (18 credits)


The Literature concentration consists of 18 credits of literature courses across six categories.  Students may not count courses in the major core for concentration requirements.

British Literature, Pre-1660 3 credits


Students will take a 300- or 400-level course in Pre-1660 British Literature. Variable topics courses will fulfill this requirement only when the title of a particular section of the course indicates that a majority of the term will be spent studying authors from this particular literary period. Courses satisfying this requirement include:

British Literature, Post-1660 3 credits


Students will take a 300- or 400-level course in Post-1660 British Literature. Variable topics courses will fulfill this requirement only when the title of a particular section of the course indicates that a majority of the term will be spent studying authors from this particular literary period. Courses satisfying this requirement include:

American Literature, Pre-1865 3 credits


Students will take a 300- or 400-level course in Pre-1865 American Literature. Variable topics courses will fulfill this requirement only when the title of a particular section of the course indicates that a majority of the term will be spent studying authors from this particular literary period. Courses satisfying this requirement include:

American Literature, Post-1865 3 credits


Students will take a 300- or 400-level course in Post-1865 American Literature. Variable topics courses will fulfill this requirement only when the title of a particular section of the course indicates that a majority of the term will be spent studying authors from this particular literary period. Courses satisfying this requirement include:

World Literature 3 credits


Students will take a 300- or 400-level course in a world literature outside the British and American tradition. Variable topics courses will fulfill this requirement only when the title of a particular section of the course indicates that a majority of the term will be spent studying authors from a world literature outside the British and American Tradition. Courses satisfying this requirement include:

Literature Elective 3 credits


Students will take a 300-level or 400-level literature elective (a Perspectives course may be used here). Courses satisfying this requirement include ENGL 310, 325-346, 351, 358-373, 377-379, 395, 411-444, or 495 not taken elsewhere in core or concentration.
