No grade below C- in biology courses is accepted for graduation requirements in the biology major.
After the first full year of enrollment, a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 must be achieved by the beginning of each fall semester to remain in the Clinical Lab Sciences Concentration.
Through its clinical lab science concentration, the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences offers a 3+1 program that leads to a bachelor in biology while also gaining the qualifications to take the national certification examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology in pursuit of the MLS (ASCP) certification.
After taking the required coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.20, students transfer for their senior year to the affiliated Inova Fairfax Hospital School of Medical Laboratory Science for the clinical part of their training. Completion of Longwood’s clinical lab science concentration cannot guarantee admission to the affiliated professional clinical lab sciences program.
