Special Education General Curriculum Add-On Endorsement
Return to: Professional Endorsement Coursework
Teachers holding an official bachelor’s degree from an appropriate institutional (formerly regional) accreditation agency and a valid Virginia professional teaching license (or an equivalent from another state) are eligible to complete this coursework, offered through Professional Studies, leading to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) Special Education General Curriculum add-on endorsement. The VDOE requires successful completion of the coursework, and VDOE regulations state that, in lieu of a practicum, one year successful full-time teaching experience with students with disabilities accessing the general curriculum in a public or an accredited nonpublic school may be accepted provided the teacher is assigned to a mentor holding a valid license with an endorsement in special education.
