Music Minor

The Minor in music is a program that requires the successful completion of 20 credits in music. Those credits are earned in theoretical studies, history and literature, applied study, and in music ensembles. MUSC 113 /MUSC 115  and MUSC 114 /MUSC 116  must be taken prior to or during the first year of applied study.

Music minors may count Civitae Core courses satisfying minor requirements as also satisfying their respective Civitae Core requirements, up to two Pillar courses and one Perspectives course.  The following are the courses in this minor that may be used in this way:

Courses satisfying minor requirements that are designated as Civitae Core courses subsequent to the print deadline of this Catalog will not appear in the above listings but will be eligible to also satisfy Civitae Core requirements, subject to the same rules as the others.

Guitar majors choose vocal or instrumental track, or work with your advisor and department chair to determine appropriate performance choices.

Minor Requirements (20 credits)


MUSC 113  and MUSC 115  must be taken concurrently. If applied area is piano, and student demonstrates intermediate-level keyboard skills, substitute 2 music elective credits for MUSC 163  and MUSC 164 .
