Gifted Education Add-On Endorsement

Teachers holding an official bachelor’s degree from an appropriate institutional (formerly regional) accreditation agency and a valid Virginia professional teaching license (or an equivalent from another state) are eligible to earn this endorsement through the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The VDOE requires successful completion of the coursework, and VDOE regulations state that, in lieu of a practicum, one year successful full-time teaching experience with gifted students in a public or an accredited nonpublic school may be accepted provided the teacher is assigned to a mentor holding a valid license with an endorsement in gifted education.
