The Applied Statistics minor consists of 18 credits in foundational coursework in statistical reasoning and training that is complementary to a wide variety of disciplines. Candidates for this minor are quantitatively inclined students, in any major, who are interested in data collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation. The Applied Statistics minor provides students with concrete skills and analysis tools which can be applied to real world problems in a variety of disciplines including psychology, sociology, business, economics, biology, criminology, environmental science, and many more. Required coursework emphasizes both the statistical techniques and the application of those techniques in authentic situations. Elective coursework allows students to focus on either deeper disciplinary issues specific to them or more general statistical techniques which can be applied broadly. Applied Statistics minors may count Civitae Core courses satisfying minor requirements as also satisfying their respective Civitae Core requirements, up to two Pillar courses and one Perspectives course. The following are the courses in this minor that may be used in this way:
- MATH 171 can satisfy the Quantitative Reasoning Pillar requirement
- MATH 301 can satisfy the Quantitative Reasoning Perspectives requirement
Courses satisfying minor requirements that are designated as Civitae Core courses subsequent to the print deadline of this Catalog will not appear in the above listings but will be eligible to also satisfy Civitae Core requirements, subject to the same rules as the others.
