ENGL 364 - Great Authors This course provides an in-depth study of a major author, that author’s contributions to form and genre through a signature style, and that author’s impact on a civic or global issue, such as Jane Austen’s influence on ideas of marriage as a social institutions. The course will approach a major author from a variety of disciplinary perspectives, comparing and contrasting such lenses as history, sociology, race and ethnic studies, and/or women’s and gender studies. Sample topics include William Shakespeare, John Milton, Jane Austen, John Keats, Emily Dickinson, Frederick Douglass, Alfred Hitchcock, Toni Morrison, Sherman Alexie, or Bob Dylan, among others.
