MATH 135 - Mathematical Modeling of Finances 3 credits A mathematical investigation of elementary personal finance. Students will make use of the mathematics of sequences, series, linear and exponential functions, and regression modeling to investigate financial concepts such as simple interest, compound interest, annuities, and consumer loans. Additional topics may include stocks and bonds; the geometric simplex method; basic probability, Markov chains, and game theory. Emphasis will be placed on applications that help individuals plan for personal financial success. Computer software such as Microsoft Excel will be used throughout.
