CHEM 111 - Fundamentals of Chemistry I 4 credits This is an introductory course in chemistry, which provides the foundation for further study in science by focusing on the structure of matter, stoichiometry, bonding, periodic law, thermochemistry, and gas laws. The laboratory component of this course focuses on scientific inquiry. Students plan and carry out experiments, collect and analyze experimental data, and disseminate results in appropriate formats. The importance of chemistry and scientific reasoning in everyday life is also a focus of the course. A C- or better in this course is a prerequisite for CHEM 112 and CHEM 211 . 3 lecture. one 2-hour lab periods.
