BIOL 450 - Biology of Cancer 4 credits This course focuses on the basic cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer with an emphasis on comparing the cellular and molecular biology of healthy cells and cancer cells. To understand how a normal cell becomes cancerous, this course will examine the development of cancer as it relates to genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, and physiology. In addition, the development and clinical use of therapies based on major discoveries in cancer biology research will be investigated. 3 lecture and one 2-hour lab periods.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 288 with a minimum grade of C-; BIOL 324 , BIOL 326 or BIOL 360 ; or permission of instructor. Corequisite(s): None.
