Department of Education and Counseling

In collaboration with departments in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Education and Counseling offers courses in the following programs of study:

  1. Elementary Education and Teaching. The Department offers education coursework and field experiences for students who wish to be elementary education (PK - 6) teachers. Students are Elementary Education and Teaching, BS  majors.
  2. Elementary and Middle School Education and Teaching. The Department offers education coursework and field experiences for students who wish to be elementary or middle education teachers (6 - 8 add on endorsement). Students are Elementary and Middle School Education and Teaching, BS  majors.
  3. Liberal Studies Special Education. The department offers a five-year program in special education with licensure in Special Education: General Curriculum K-12. Students are Liberal Studies, BS  majors with a concentration in special education. Students who complete the undergraduate program will receive a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies. Upon the completion of the fifth year students will receive a Master’s degree in Education and licensure in special education. Students must complete the fifth year to be endorsed to teach special education.

 

Early Childhood Education.  The Department offers education coursework and field experiences for students who wish to be early childhood educators. Students are Early Childhood Education, BS  majors. Students can option to take the licensure or the non-licensure path.

The department also offers the following graduate degrees: Master of Science degree in Education; Master of Science degree in Counseling; Master of Education degree in Reading, Literacy, and Learning; and Master of Education degree in School Librarianship.
